Council Member Larry Spicer was re-elected to
City Council on November 4, 2008 and served as Mayor from December 2008 to
December 2009. Prior to his election, he served on the city's Planning
Commission from 2000-2005 and on the Architecture & Landscape Committee
from 1999-2000. He currently serves on the Indian Wells Finance, Grants-in-Aid and
Marketing Committees; the Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy and Jacqueline
Cochran Regional Airport Commission; and Coachella Valley Association of
Governments Homelessness Committee.
Active in community service throughout the
Coachella Valley, Council Member Spicer recently completed a two-year term as
chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Living Desert. He is a past president
of the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce, a former director of the Desert Chapter
of the Building Industry Association, a member of the board of Family YMCA of
the Desert, a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, and vice chairman of the Palm
Springs Airport Commission.
Council Member Spicer is retired from the real
estate industry. He has held several senior positions for land development and
construction companies in Southern California. He is also a registered
professional engineer in California and Florida and a former member of the Urban
Land Institute's Recreational Development Council. A former U.S. Air Force
captain and fighter pilot, he also received a bachelor's degree in Industrial
Engineering from Stanford. He and wife Patty have lived in Indian Wells for 36
years. They have three children and five grandchildren.
