The City is holding a Special Election on November 8, 2011 for Ballot Measure H.

Measure H asks the voters to approve an increase to the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) or hotel room tax from the current 9.25% to 11.25%. TOT is paid by hotel guests and is not a tax burden on local residents.

Measure H is a general tax and may be used for any general governmental purpose of the city, such as expenditures for fire, paramedic, and police services; street maintenance; and public works projects.

Residents should receive their Sample Ballots in the first week of October.

Residents who requested Vote by Mail ballots should receive them around October 15, 2011.

Early voting will be available this election at the Westfield Palm Desert Shopping Center on Saturday, November 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Also, a blue box for Vote by Mail ballots will be in the City Hall reception area beginning October 11, 2011. As a reminder, Vote by Mail ballots that are turned in before election day will be counted first on election night. Indian Wells has the second best percentage of Vote by Mail voters at 60.83% in the County.
