REMINDER: Observe Golf Cart Safety

golf_cart_crossing_large

The City of Indian Wells has recently noticed golf cars operating along the painted breakdown shoulder of Highway 111. Please note that operation of golf cars on Highway 111 is unsafe, illegal, and subject to police citation. Driving golf cars on local streets with speed limits more than 25 mph is also banned, excepting special use conditions. The California Vehicle Code does allow golf cars to run on streets with speed limits of 25 mph or lower, within two miles of a golf course.

At the present time, Indian Wells does not have designated golf car paths for any city sidewalk. However, portions of the eight-foot-wide sidewalks on Highway 111 are specifically designated for pedestrians and bicyclists (as identified by the 'Bike Route' signage). You may use these sidewalks as a golf car route at your own risk; however, please use maximum care to avoid pedestrians and cyclists.

The new "Share the Road" signs recently installed as part of the Highway 111 improvement project are intended to warn drivers to watch for bicyclists.
